John Calipari close to becoming Kentucky coach?

Memphis coach John Calipari is reportedly being offered an eight-year deal worth $35 million by the University of Kentucky, who fired coach Billy Gillespie on Friday.

That would make Calipari the highest-paid coach in college basketball. Currently, Florida's Billy Donovan's contract pays him $3.5 million per season.

Calipari's current deal, which has four years remaining, would pay him $2.35 million per season.

Kentucky is the all-time winningest team based on wins and winning percentage in NCAA mens basketball history.

The strength of Calipari is his recruiting. Considering how successful he's been in recruiting at Memphis in Conference USA, the sky is the limit at Kentucky. Then again, the expectations would be just as high.
