Kevin Love "screwed" in Rookie of Year vote?

Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Kevin Love feels he was "screwed." Two times.

First, it was the NBA's rookie-sophomore game, for which he was left off the rookie team, and now the Rookie of the Year vote.

Love, who was the NBA's Rookie of the Month in March, finished sixth in the recent Rookie of the Year voting. He agrees that Chicago Bulls rookie Derrick Rose, who won the award, should have won. However, he feels he should have finished higher than sixth.

Love led all rookies in rebounding (9.1 per game) and double-doubles (29).
"Pardon my French, but it's the second time I've gotten screwed," he said from Los Angeles. "I definitely thought I would finish higher, but after the rookie-sophomore snub, I guess anything can happen."

"I guess I just needed to play a little better," Love said. "Maybe a 30th double-double would have made a difference."
Love says he plans to use the disappointment as motivation for next season. He intends to "take care of my business this summer ... and come back a better player and try to help my team win."

Using it as motivation is the right thing to do. Crying about it in public, whether he's right or wrong, is not.

Even if he has incentives in his contract (e.g., he will x amount of dollars if he finishes in the top five in rookie of the year voting), there is no reason to complain. Because two years from now, nobody is going to remember that Brook Lopez, as an example, finished fourth and Kevin Love finished sixth.

Except Kevin Love.
