Mavs to pursue Chris Paul in off-season?

Tim McMahon of the Dallas Morning News wants you to do something that might sound a little crazy. He wants you to "picture Chris Paul in a Mavericks uniform."

McMahon argues that the economy and the Hornets' payroll situation make the idea not as crazy as it might seem.

He points out that the Hornets, a luxury-tax team in a small market, could be squeezed by the sheer economics of their situation. If the Mavs were willing to absorb some hefty Hornets' contracts (Peja Stojakovic and Tyson Chandler, James Posey or Morris Peterson), they might be able to pry CP3 from business-minded Hornets' owner George Shinn.

Stojakovic is due $13.39 million next season and $14.26 in 2010-11 and Chandler is due $12.3 next season and $13.2 in 2010-11. Peterson is due $12 million over the next two seasons and Posey is due $19.5 over the next three seasons.
"I want to win," Cuban said last night when asked about his willingness to take on significant salaries under the right circumstances. "If I think it puts us over the top, hell yeah. I'll just go get another job at Dairy Queen."
This is a real long shot to happen as I can't see the Hornets parting with CP3, but it doesn't hurt for Cuban to make an offer this summer.

Paul is the best PG in the game. I agree it's worth a shot but unlikely to happen.
