Eddie Jordan to be the next coach in Philly

The Philadelphia 76ers have reached an agreement on a three-year contract with Eddie Jordan, according to Kate Fagan of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

"I saw firsthand the immense impact Eddie Jordan had in helping the Nets reach two NBA Finals, and as the head coach in Washington, he consistently put his teams in a position to win on a nightly basis," Stefanski said in a statement.

"He embodies all the qualities I was looking for in the next head coach of the Sixers, and we are very excited to have him in Philadelphia," the general manager said.

Jordan, who was the first NBA coach fired last season, has a career coaching record of 230-288 with the Sacramento Kings and Washington Wizards.

The financial terms of Jordan's contract weren't disclosed, but the Wizards are on the hook for $4 million next season. The Wizards will have to pay Jordan the difference between that and what the Sixers pay him.

He was one of only two coaching prospects to have multiple interviews. The other was Dallas Mavericks assistant Dwane Casey, who said that Stefanski "had a first-class process."

The others that interviewed were Celtics assistant Tom Thibodeau, Lakers assistant Kurt Rambis, Sixers scout Chris Ford and Villanova coach Jay Wright.

I would have preferred Thibodeau or Jeff Van Gundy, who didn't interview, over Jordan. However, Jordan is better than his record indicates.

He took the Wizards to the playoffs in four of the five full years he was there. They made the playoffs in only one of the 15 seasons before he took over in 2003-04.
