Nick Calathes to play in Greece?
Florida Gators point guard Nick Calathes gave up his final two years of collegiate eligibility to go pro. And according to Athens Banner-Herald, that means that Calathes is going to Greece to play for Panathinaikos.
Calathes, who has Greek dual citizenship, should earn plenty in endorsements in addition to the $1.1 million per year contract that the Banner-Herald is reporting he signed. In addition to the salary, Calathes will be provided with a home, car and tax credits.
Neither Calathes nor his family confirmed or denied the report.
After being named Mr. Basketball in Florida twice (2006 and 2007), Calathes was SEC Co-Freshman of the Year with Kentucky's Patrick Patterson. Last year, he was second team All-SEC.
