The Fix - new (almost) daily feature
Starting today (and every day going forward whenever we feel like it), we are going to compile a list of news, notes, quotes and rumors around the NBA and NCAA basketball. Considering our blog name is the Basketball Junkie, we're going to name the new feature The Fix.
Speaking of fixes, Dennis Rodman didn't heed the advice of his wife Michelle Moyer and former coach Phil Jackson among other friends to "get Dennis to go to rehab" according to the New York Post. Instead, Rodman didn't want to miss a reunion taping of Celebrity Apprentice, which is interesting because I remember Rodman missed an episode when he was hungover and wouldn't get out of bed for a project on the show.
Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin was fined $25,000 for a hard foul on Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki.
"Tell [Mavericks coach] Rick [Carlisle] I'll send the film in on Nowitzki,'' [Nuggets coach George] Karl said. "I think we did a hell of a job of not fouling him."
New Jersey Nets guard Keyon Dooling had successful hip surgery to remove loose particles from his right hip and is expected to be ready for training camp.
Miami Heat coach Eric Spoelstra, who grades players in 55 areas of defense on every possession, says of rookie forward Michael Beasley "it really was like getting a junior-high level defensive player" when training camp began.
Utah Jazz forward Matt Harpring on the disappointing outcome for the Jazz: "You've got to get to a bottom line here or there. The bottom line was we had high expectations for this team -- I know I did, I thought we were a championship caliber team -- and I think we just underachieved."
Chicago Bulls soon-to-be-free-agent Ben Gordon on his future in Chicago: "I'd like to be here. But I wanted to be here long-term the last two summers too, and it didn't happen. So you never know."
"It was fun. I felt like I was a fan. I was cheering and Twittering," said [Magic center Dwight] Howard, who was suspended for game six against the Sixers. "I was Twittering and Tweeting so much I think I might need to go to Tweet-hab."
Coach Byron Scott has the support of Hornets' players, according to David West and James Posey.
A. Sherrod Blakely of MLive.com says someone like Louisville's Terrence Williams might be just what the Pistons need in this year's draft.
