Mourning to join Heat front office
The Miami Heat are in the process of a creating a front-office position for Alonzo Mourning, who is their all-time leading scorer and rebounder, per Michael Wallace of the Miami Herald.
''We are in discussions with Zo, and in the stage of forming a long-term relationship,'' [team president Pat] Riley said Friday.
The details of Mourning's role haven't been formalized. Most likely, however, Mourning would work with the young Heat players - rookies and free agents - helping them adjust to the organization and the South Florida community.
A few months ago, Mourning's No. 33 became the first number to be retired in franchise history. Mourning was named an NBA All-Star seven times and the league's Defensive Player of the Year twice.
There isn't another person more qualified to mentor young Heat players than Zo.
