Stoudemire's no "fan" of T-Mac
If NBA All-Star voting is a popularity contest, then New York's Tracy McGrady, who was acquired from Houston, is more popular than other guards, such as Jason Kidd of Dallas, Brandon Roy of Portland and Chauncey Billups of Denver.
But not so with Phoenix power forward Amar'e Stoudemire.
Per Frank Isola of the NY Daily News, Stoudemire said, "I'm not a big Tracy McGrady fan." When asked to clarify if that applied to McGrady as a player or a person, he responded: "both."
Dating back to Stoudemire's days as a high-schooler, he claims McGrady shrugged off his request for some advice about making the transition from high school to the NBA when they were at a football game. Meanwhile, T-Mac says, "That's a made-up story."
However, that doesn't mean that Stoudemire and McGrady, who are both due to become free agents in the off-season, couldn't co-exist as teammates.
"I can be teammates with anybody," Stoudemire said. "It's really not that big of a deal. With us both having success in the league he has respect for me and my respect for him is still somewhat there. So I definitely can play with him."
In March, Stoudemire has been scoring in bunches -- 28.7 points per game, which is six points above his season average of 22.8 ppg. Meanwhile, McGrady is averaging only 9.5 points in 27+ minutes per game in the month of March.
